Micro Systems, Inc. designs, develops, and manufactures electronic components, subsystems and systems that are used in a broad range of military and defense applications. In fact, they are the leading supplier drone command and control systems that are used by the United States’ Department of Defense.

Micro Systems is extremely selective when choosing a supplier for one of their products because their equipment needs to be high-performance requirements, as well as stringent safety and reliability requirements. In addition to these strict requirements, when developing their new Portable Air Target System (PATS) they needed it to be low cost, extremely durable, and easy to maintain. They focused heavily on the quality of the individual switch components. This is because target drone missions are extremely expensive and there is no tolerance for equipment failure. PATS also needed to be developed within 6 months. To accomplish all of this, they picked NKK Switches and bushing mount toggle switches.

Micro Systems explained, “Competitive solutions weren’t a good find as we felt that the quality was not suited for our applications or had extremely long delivery times that simply would not meet our schedule. NKK had the best quality solution and offered a satisfactory lead time.” When PATS debuted it quickly became the gold standard for many aerial target applications in large part because of the partnership between Micro Systems and NKK Switches.
